Jay Hughes, JD
Widely considered the father of the field of family wealth, Jay is a retired attorney and author of Family Wealth: Keeping It in the Family and Family – The Compact Among Generations. Jay is co-author of The Cycle of the Gift, The Voice of the Rising Generation, and Family Trusts: a Guide for Beneficiaries, Trustees, Trust Protectors and Trust Creators. Jay was the founder of a law partnership in New York City. He is a member of various philanthropic boards and a member of the editorial boards of various professional journals. Jay is a graduate of the Far Brook School, which teaches through the arts, The Pingry School, Princeton University, and The Columbia School of Law.
Dennis Jaffe, PhD
For over 40 years, Dennis has been one of the leading architects of the field of family enterprise consulting. As both an organizational consultant and clinical psychologist, he helps multi-generational families to develop governance practices that build the capability of next generation leadership and ensure ongoing capability of financial organizations and family offices to serve their family clients. Dennis’ latest book, Borrowed from your Grandchildren: The Evolution of 100-Year Family Enterprises, summarizing his research into 100 Year Family Enterprises, is published by Wiley/Bloomberg Press. Dennis received his B.A. in Philosophy, M.A. in Management, and Ph.D. in Sociology from Yale University.
Scotty McLennan, JD
Scotty is a minister, lawyer, teacher, and author. He is a Lecturer in Political Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. His primary research interests are in the interface of ethics, spirituality, and the professions. Scotty served as the Dean for Religious Life at Stanford University and the University Chaplain at Tufts University. He was also a Senior Lecturer at the Harvard Business School. Scotty is the author of Finding Your Religion: When the Faith You Grew Up With Has Lost Its Meaning and Jesus Was a Liberal: Reclaiming Christianity for All, as well as co-author of Church on Sunday, Work on Monday: the Challenge of Fusing Christian Values with Business Life. Scotty received a B.A. from Yale University and M.Div. and J.D. degrees from Harvard Divinity and Law Schools.
Mariann Mihailidis, JD
Mariann is a trusted advisor to senior family office executives who aspire to be the best they can be for the families they serve. They rely on Mariann for advice, mentoring, and connection with true peers. During 22 years at Family Office Exchange, Mariann collaborated with family office leaders to establish the Private Investor Coalition; developed a network of families with Private Trust Companies; and created the Trustee and Beneficiary Workshop. Mariann began her career in public accounting and later transitioned to a private law firm where she focused on estate planning and tax. She is a licensed attorney and CPA. Mariann received her BBA in accounting from the University of Notre Dame and her JD from IIT Chicago Kent College of Law.
Barton Parrott, MBA
Bart has more than 25 years of experience as a management consultant working with families and family businesses on issues such as business strategy, leadership, governance, succession, philanthropy, and family education and development. As a Senior Manager at the Center for Applied Research, Inc., a privately held spinoff from the Wharton School, he worked with owner-led businesses and served as co-lead for the firm’s strategy practice. Bart started his career instructing courses for the outdoor program Outward Bound, where he worked with management teams, boards, and other groups to improve their ability to work together and learn from experience. Although he no longer works outside all day, he brings an experiential, active-learning approach to all of his work with families, executives, and organizations. Bart earned a BA with distinction from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Jamie Traeger-Muney, PhD
Jamie specializes in the emotional impact of wealth on inheritors, women, and couples. Jamie’s personal experience as a second-generation owner of a family business and board member of her family foundation, combined with her expertise in psychology, has given her a unique sensitivity to issues surrounding the inter-generational family dynamics of affluence. Jamie’s commentary has been featured in major media outlets such as: WSJ, BBC, Bloomberg Business Week, and Town & Country Magazine. Jamie worked as a Family Wealth Consultant for Wells Fargo’s Family Wealth Group. Jamie earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology.
